I am a 62 year old woman. I have been treated for Graves Disease years ago, and have had controlled high BP for 30 years. Lately as I gained weight my BP has become elevated to 160/85. I was taking Hyzaar 100mg/25mg and Atenolol 25 mg. Doctor took me off the Atenolol and put me on Avapro 150 mg. A few days later my BP sky rocketed to 220/90 and I ended up in Emerg. Medication was changed to Norvase 5 mg, Hyzaar 100mg/25mg and San-Bisoprolol 5 mg. Could this spike have been caused by going off the Atenolol?

I am trying to come off atenolol and my blood pressure keeps spiking too. I have the tremours and am struggling not to take the pills. I cut back to 12.5 mg and after a week stopped it completely, it still hasn’t been easy. I may have to start taking them again if blood pressure and pulse rate do not improve.
